The traditional African House we call Tabanka (in Guinea-Bissau) represents a safe place with opened doors, where the community welcomes its sons & daughters and where they can gather strengths from in order to strive. It runs under the powerful belief that if we join our hands and souls for mutual support and guidance, our community will flourish as a result.
For years, Europe has been my home. Through the difficulty of adapting to a new culture as well as dealing with others interpretation of mine, a need for keeping the memory of my Motherland alive evoked. Ultimately, such need grew into a passion for celebrating the extraordinary aspects of Africa culture through a new generation of Artists.
Tabanka was born from the belief that, through entertainment, we can not only experience our culture beyond borders, but also educate each other about Africa’s potential & contribution. It is my strong belief that education happens through the dissemination & visibility of a culture from various angles and, in this sense, we wish to bring new angles to the table, positively expanding the narrative around Africa.
